The Training Future Leaders Program is, first and foremost, a leadership development program. Successful TFL applicants will have demonstrated the potential to serve as private and public sector leaders and managers who can play prominent roles in the development of their national and regional economies and societies. Successful TFL applicants will also have a demonstrated commitment to addressing the needs of their local communities. In addition:

1.       All candidates must have residency and live in one of the ANE countries specified above and have relevant academic and/or professional experience in their preferred field of study. Candidates will only be considered for scholarships for studies in those sectors listed as priorities for their home country in the chart below:

Please note: Applications will only be considered for individuals from the above-listed countries and for the particular sectors indicated for those countries.

2.       Applicants must have an excellent academic record with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.0 or above. As this is a graduate program, all applicants are expected to have completed a first university or college degree (the equivalent of a US bachelor’s) prior to beginning their US studies. Please note that US universities/colleges may have additional requirements beyond these general TFL parameters.

3.       Prior to departure for the US to begin their master’s studies, applicants will be required to submit official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores which meet US university admission requirements. In addition, business applicants must submit Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) scores. Applicants in all other fields of study will be required to submit Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores. All candidates will be expected to have strong English language proficiency and communications skills before they begin studying in the US.

4.       Priority will be given to candidates currently employed who have at least two (2) years of professional experience relevant to the proposed field of study, and who are nominated by their employer. Consideration will also be given to candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to their field of study either through community services, activities, involvement in associations, or similar.

5.       Preference will be given to those applicants who have not previously lived or studied in the US, and only one scholarship per family will be granted.

Employees of USAID or AED, or relatives of USAID or AED staff are not eligible to apply.
